Recap of the first race weekend of this season
The first weekend of the ADAC GT masters was quite a challenging weekend for us. We started on Thursday with tricky conditions, not optimal if you want to set up the car perfectly for the weekend. In the late afternoon we had some electrical issues which carried on into Friday, so we didn’t have the maximum running time which resulted in not being able to set up the car properly. In such a competitive field that means we’re already one step behind before we’ve even started. This cost us a lot of momentum throughout the weekend.
Personally I focused on my own task, improve my driving and maximize my side of things to give 100%.
On Saturday when qualifying started the car wasn’t suited to the conditions. This caught everyone by surprise, we just managed to get a P18 which is not what we expect. We should be able to qualify much higher up. For the race it’s another reset and you try to maximise it, sadly I didn’t gain any positions and we finished in P18, that was a tough one to take.
The team worked hard though throughout Saturday night, although I don’t think we found everything, we made a big step forward. Sunday we got more out of the car in qualifying.
I think we have quite a good car, we stayed in P8 till the last five minutes of the race where I lost a position to P9. Still a happy result and good damage limitation. We now have to analyse the data carefully together with the team and see how we can do better in Red Bull Ring. But we’ve shown we can be in top 10 and now build on from here.
First race weekend is done, so the pressure is off and now it’s full focus ahead!
